We exist here on Turtle Island in a time warp of constant revelations.
Some revelations make me sick to my stomach like MAGA doubling down on oil in the middle of mega-fires; or reading about ethno-white nationalists celebrating M*sk’s Hitler salute; or Tr*mp revealing that they will treat liberatory concepts like equity as “immoral and illegal”. It’s funny because it’s actually the fascism that is immoral and should be illegal, but the MAGA cruelty and corruption machine does love to try to turn the tables.
Other revelations remind me of Woodie Guthrie’s words “All you fascists bound to lose” and the late, great Gil Scott Heron’s words that I evoke in my novel’s title, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”. Here are my fun reveals to kick off 2025.
Cover Reveal!
What’s the right cover for a speculative cli-fi, enemies-to-lovers, romance between an activist and a son-of-a fascist that takes place entirely during a Hurricane bearing down on the East Coast?
I knew that I wanted to evoke a spicy romance, and also evoke both hurricane and fire so the climate impacts of the backdrop were clear. Taking down fascism is fun and sexy, so I somehow wanted that to come through too. I was so lucky to have gorgeous options and a season of holiday gatherings to consult folks, and I could not be more excited about the final cover!
I want to thank Dede Cummings, my wonderful publisher for inviting my input and having great instincts, and also Allee Pineault the designer for somehow incorporating so many elements into a beautiful and clean design. THANK YOU Green Writers Press team! I’m still in the editing process, but pre-orders should be ready to go in March!
Blurb Reveal!
The Revolution Will Not Be Rated G also has a website now! And it has Bill McKibben’s blurb that I teased in my last post. Isn’t Bill the best? (read it aloud and picture Bill saying it for best effect)
“Saving the world is going to take many tools, from solar panels to…sweaty, taut torsos and supple, seductive curves. Keya Chatterjee has reimagined the romance novel to include the powerful romance of fighting for a better world. But if she wants to cool the planet, her world is still a hot hot place.” —Bill McKibben
Role Reveal! Free DC!
Last but not least of my reveals, I’m very excited to announce that I am co-founding Free DC and will serve as the Executive Director!
Why? I’ll share more about Free DC in a subsequent post, but the short answer is that I spent the past year studying anti-authoritarian movements around the world and imagining getting to a world where we take care of each other. My key takeaways (though there are many) are that 1- we need to get in formation and get ready for large-scale noncooperation; 2-we need to organize locally in a deep way to bring new people in and protect our people; and 3- we need to fix the whole system to enable climate justice, racial justice, disability justice, gender justice, and all our liberation. Protecting DC from martial law and working towards DC having equal representation under the law, will build from local power to global power, and it is SO fun.
I mean, look at us looking like the Supremes up at the Anti-Inaugural Ball!
THANK YOU as always for your love and support!
Host a Free DC party at your house and invite me!
If you are in DC, join me at this teach-in at All Souls Unitarian Church tomorrow!
